When founder Jennifer Herrera started SHOP DOG SHOP CAT she was very excited about the opportunity to register it as a B Corporation (benefit corporation). A Benefit Corporation is a relatively new option for business, taking effect in some states as recent as 2016, and is defined as a corporate entity that includes a positive impact on society, workers, the community and the environment in addition to profit as it's legally defined goals. Benefit Corporations differ from traditional C Corporations in purpose, accountability, and transparency. On that note here are the founding principles that SHOP DOG SHOP CAT is built on:
At the forefront of our mission is animal advocacy. We work closely with animal rescue groups and support them at every turn. We believe that in this day in age there is no reason to "buy" a pet when so many amazing animals are in shelters or on the streets. We are committed to donating $1 from every sale to animal rights & rescue initiatives, and to collaborating with like-minded businesses to raise money in support of this cause. We know that the problem of homeless animals is vast and complicated, and are excited to include SDSC among the many companies who support and advocate for them.
If you're looking for cheap and mass produced goods - SDSC is not the place. Many of our products are sourced and made in batches from small, sometimes single person run businesses. Part of the fun of SDSC is seeking out and supporting talented animal loving designers and makers. As our company grows to include a wider range of products we will stay committed to honoring the hands that make our products and the lives behind them with admiration and a decent living wage.
We also believe that there's no point in respecting human and animal kind if you don't also respect the environment we live in. We endeavor to only support businesses using sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. If you are a business or know of a business that sounds like a good fit for us please get in touch!
We believe in turning our competition into allies. We recognize that we are not the only pet goods business with the goal of promoting animal advocacy and are excited to reach out to our community of animal lovers to create new solutions to the problems we face. We love working with like-minded businesses and organizations to raise money and promote the message of animal advocacy. If you are interested in collaborating with us please get in touch!
