When I was scrolling through the Instagram of the lovely LA based photographer Laure Jolie I found that I actually remembered several of the photos, or at least the feeling I felt when I first saw them, some from months and months ago. In the sordid avalanche of images Instagram can sometimes be, Laure's photos always offer a bit of respite - they're quiet and thoughtful and a bit meditative. And while I love all of them, it's those of the feline persuasion that I'm particularly keen on. They are, for the most part, of her own adorable kitty Hazelnut, who seems less like the subject of a portrait and more like a four legged gate keeper, granting us these photos on her own time - like when she did a runaround of the neighborhood and gave us this amazing rooftop photo. Looking over these I can't shake the feeling that she should focus on cat portraiture, at least enough to put together a book - I'll be the first in line. Until then we can all scrape by with what Instagram (and Hazelnut) grant us.
