CUSTOM PET PORTRAITS
Much like parents with human children, I like to get portraits of my dogs done once a year. Luckily there are so many talented artists lending a hand to pet portraiture these days. Here are five that have been in my shopping cart for months, just waiting for a few extra dollars and some reckless abandon:
I'm starting with this one because the artist is currently TAKING COMMISSIONS - you never know when artists will be open for commissions so it's good idea to take advantage, especially when they are this talented! There's something so moody and beautiful about these portraits, I would buy them even though they aren't my dogs, hint hint ;)
While this one doesn't exactly count as "custom" - ALL 185 AKC breeds are available - so even if you have a mutt, you're bound to find something that strikes your fancy (my dogs are both mutts and I want about 50 of these). And don't be fooled, while they may look like prints they are actually a type of paper collage involving "10 to 20 (or more) individually hand-cut pieces of paper, in a variety of colors and patterns, combined in layers and mounted on colored card stock to create one of a kind designs." Love it! The Spanish Water Dog made of doilies is especially calling to me, check out more below!
A search for 'custom pet portraits' on Etsy will give you a lot of results (250 pages to be exact) - you can scroll for days if you want to, but you don't have to because I did it for you! In terms of watercolors this is my number one pick. I love the sunny over exposed feel of her paintings, they're so emotional and dreamy and I kind of want to smother that golden doodle with cuddles right now.
This is a shop I check back on often to see what's new, her admittedly "strange" style is like nothing else out there, and I've spent considerable time daydreaming about being able to afford her original poodle painting - but what we're talking about here are her "custom wonky portraits" - the name alone is enough for me - check out the hashtag #wonkypetportrait for more!
I came across Lili's shop when I was looking for a wedding gift - her family portrait illustrations are so incredibly unique - but it's her pet portraits that I just cannot get enough of, I find myself wanting to meet the animals behind the illustrations, they're so fun and full of life. Lili works from Italy and according to her Etsy shop her current turnaround time is a little over a month - so hop to it folks!
